Why Your Team Is Overrated: The Indianapolis Colts

Trust me folks, I’m not writing this because the Colts have beaten the Chiefs way too many times for me to count. Actually the last time KC bounced Indy from the playoffs, and that was when the Colts still had Andrew Luck. No this is aimed at a franchise that despite having had multiple good and or great QBs and one Hall of Fame QB force his way to another team come draft time, they don’t have much in the way of rings to show for it. It’s quite pathetic, actually, even though I’ll admit my favorite team the Chiefs have the same number of Super Bowl wins.

That may or not may last, considering the Colts decided to sign…*checks notes* Matt Ryan, a QB present for the worst collapse in Super Bowl history. I’m not sure you can blame him for that one, yet I know he didn’t help. The Colts have given up on drafting or developing QBs and will probably continue to drunkenly swap in old QBs for the foreseeable future. This makes sense when you look at who the owner is: Jim Irsay, who has a history of both drug and alcohol abuse. In the NFL though that doesn’t matter when it comes to owners, and so Irsay will keep on running the team until he finally shuffles off his mortal coil on some acid trip while playing his guitar. To be replaced by his daughter, probably.

He looks so glad he escaped Atlanta. That’s how bad the Falcons were that someone would be happy to end up in Indiana.

Can Indy actually win the division? Eh, probably since it’s a joke and only the Titans offer up any possible resistance. The AFC South and NFC South are the two worst divisions in football imo, although I still give the edge to the AFC one just because at least the NFC one has one more total ring. It’s beyond pathetic and a reminder that for some parts of the NFL, division realignment would be equal parts necessary and a blessing.

What’s Not Overrated: Michael Pittman Jr. is very talented, as is the offensive line. Give that man the ball and watch him fly.

Enjoy It While It Lasts: Jonathan Taylor is a beast and yet as everyone knows running backs have a tragically short shelf life these days. Also Ryan isn’t exactly a spring chicken. Did I mention I drafted Ryan as a backup in my Yahoo league? Thank God that league is free.

Oddly for reasons I can’t explain I could see this team making a Super Bowl run just because the defense is solid enough and they could simply copy the Rams and the Bucs Super Bowl blueprints. Most likely this season ends in a depressing divisional round loss that wastes another year of Taylor. Still, you could root for a worse team in the Midwest. I’m looking at you, Browns….

PLAYOFFS?!: Conference Title Game Edition

Now for the NFL Conference title game picks (last week’s record: 3-1)

*Seattle Seahawks over Green Bay Packers (35-17)

Look I want to pick the Packers. But I can’t and I won’t. Aaron Rodgers is banged up and so is Eddie Lacy. While Marshawn Lynch may not have played well last game he will burn GB’s defense just like DeMarco Murray did. Also Russell Wilson is a duel threat QB and the Packers are facing him at home. Not even my own bias can’t change my mind.

*New England Patriots over Indianapolis Colts (37-20)

Poor Andrew Luck is 0-3 against the Pats. That’s unlikely to change as the Colts were run over by NE last time the two met in the playoffs. Also Gronk is a beast and seems unstoppable. I foresee the Patriots pulling away late at home as Tom Brady returns to the Super Bowl.

PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS?! Divisional Round

Time for more NFL fun this weekend (last weekend’s record: 3-1):

*Seattle Seahawks over Carolina Panthers (27-13)

Sure Carolina will put up more of a fight than expected. Yet Seattle has a great home crowd and hasn’t lost at home in a long time. The Panthers got this far but I just can’t see them stopping Russell Wilson or Marshawn Lynch.

*New England Patriots over Baltimore Ravens (35-20)

Unlike the Steelers the Patriots are not banged up and Tom Brady is looking to get revenge on Baltimore for knocking him out of the playoffs two seasons ago. Look for NE’s underrated run game to make a difference.

*Green Bay Packers over Dallas Cowboys (27-24)

This is destined to be a classic. And a really hard fought game as both teams have great offenses and quality defenses. Aaron Rodgers vs Tony Romo is a fantastic matchup. I’m heavily biased so take this entire post lightly. Eddie Lacy might be the X factor for the Packers.

*Denver Broncos over Indianapolis
Colts (31-26)

Peyton Manning outlasts Andrew Luck in a battle that ends up being decided by a couple of C.J. Anderson touchdowns. The Colts defense will keep some of Denver’s wideouts in check but it won’t be enough.

PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS?! Wild Card Weekend Edition

Time to share my awful NFL playoff picks with Internet. Commentary included of course.

*Carolina Panthers over Arizona Cardinals 21-13

The Cardinals have played badly due to losing multiple quarter backs. The Panthers are hosting a home game with a losing record. Carolina has the advantage with Cam Newton, a duel threat QB who will give Arizona’s defense problems. Someone get Larry Fitzgerald a good QB under center.

*Dallas Cowboys over Detroit Lions 27-23

Even though the Lions have Suh the Cowboys have a high flying offense. Matthew Stafford isn’t good enough to match Tony Romo, although DeMarco Murray hasn’t been playing well as of late. This should be a close hard fought contest.

*Pittsburgh Steelers over Baltimore Ravens 31-27

Neither team has a quality defense and even though Le’Veon Bell is injured the Steelers still have Ben Roelisberger to put up numbers. Joe Flacco is good but he’s turnover prone this season and hasn’t played well against top defenses. Antonio Brown will end up carrying the day in a game that will not be like previous playoff matchups between the two teams.

*Indianapolis Colts over Cincinnati Bengals 30-17

Andy Dalton has been nothing but awful in the playoffs. I just don’t see that changing, especially with A.J. Green injured. Plus Andrew Luck is great at home despite a poor run game to support him. The Colts defense will get enough stops to pull off the win.
